Question: Is the ladder permanently fixed to bed or can it be moved?
Answer: It is perminently fixed with two screws. You could leave them out, but the metal brackets are kind of flimsy if you do.

Question: What is the maximum mattress thickness that can be used?
Answer: I beleive the matress thickness is limited only by how much space your child needs to sit up. The top has plenty of room, the bottom's tighter but we put plywood over the bottom and used it for a play area. I do recomend putting the matress(es) in as you're building it. It gets tricky fully assembled, especially on the top.

Question: Can you leave the bottom open or do you have to install bottom bed?
Answer: Hello, Installing the bottom bed is helpful to the overall stability of the bed, recommended to install it, thanks!

Question: How strong is this bed? Could an adult lay down with child?
Answer: My husbands always lays down with my daughter on top bunk bed.. just have to reinforce the top by putting more slats

Question: How tall is the bed without the house canopy??
